RE: Quality/Durability of HiTec Squash Shoes

Judging by how hard some people kick, maybe we should go over to using Kung Fu slippers, or Sombo Wrestling boots in training. People might kick a bit lighter if there was a chance of their toes being snapped or dislocated.

There seems also to have been a change in the shape of HiTecs. The latest pair that I bought cut into the front of my ankles... so can't wear them anyway...

as discussed yesterday I have noticed the same.  I think we may need to look for another suitable 'cheap' shoe.
It is especially important as the new hitecs have lost a lot of their heel cup stability as well.
Good to see you at the seminar.
Cheers,
DT

Has anybody else noticed a recent decrease in the durability/training life of the ubiquitous HiTec squash shoe that so many of us use for training?

I bought a new pair in about December, and they were ready for the bin in March (although I'm still using them! :D)

The laces have split along their length, the back has split around the base and one of the soles has worn through. Oh, and the inner sole coverings have come adrift.
Basically.... they're pretty f$%cked!

They seem to have dropped in price (at JJB anyway) to £12. So has there been a drop in quality to match?

Maybe related to this is there seems to be a slightly new style out now- different colour toe/upper leather, and the tread pattern is different.

Any comment/observations? Have I just bought a 'Friday afternoon' pair or what? Or are we all going to need a re-think? Only posting this really as so many of us wear these things for Savate. (some socially too, I've noticed! smile.gifsmile.gif ).

Cheers,
James
