GBSF Squad Training 30 August

Great Britain Savate Federation (GBSF) Squad Training & Development Day

Saturday 30th August, 2008

Venue: Core Cambridge, Trinity Hall Farm Estate, Nuffield Road, Cambridge, CB4 1TG

Times: 10.30am until 5pm (at the latest).

Trainers & Coaches: Core Cambridge professionals, and GBSF Senior Coaches Mr Martin ROSS and Mr Charlie HOWES. I will also be there in a support role if required on the day.

The session will start at 10:30am so please endeavour to arrive just before that time - say 10.20am.

After a brief introduction, Core trainers will take the athletes away in groups of four for their assessments. Each group will take 45-50 minutes to assess. Whilst each group of four is being assessed, GBSF coaches Martin ROSS & Charlie HOWES will conduct savate technical training with the others in the 30m x 5m training area.

When the 12 assessments have been completed, everyone will gather together so that the findings can be wrapped up for the group.

We will then take a short (approx 30 minutes) break for lunch.

After lunch, Core trainers will take everyone through the theories and practicalities of the dynamic warm up. GBSF coaches Martin ROSS and Charlie HOWES will also be involved by providing sport-specific elements.

Warm-up block A. (Core Trainers - 5 mins).
GBSF Sport-specific Block A (Ross & Charlie - 3 mins).
Warm-up block B (Core Trainers - 5 mins).
GBSF Sport-specific Block B (Ross & Charlie - 3 mins).
Warm-up Block C (Core Trainers - 5 mins).

Core Trainers will then move on to conditioning, before wrapping it all together and discussing how all of the elements of training fit together.

After we finish at Core, you are invited to come along to Next Generation Gym., 21 Coldhams Business Park, Norman Way (off Coldham's Lane), Cambridge, CB1 3LH as our Guests. We have a limited number of Guest passes for those who wish to make use of the facilities there - such as the pools, steam room, weights and machines, climbing wall, spa, etc. We can also sign others in (as Social Guests) who perhaps only want to relax in the Lounge and Restaurant area, and have something to eat and drink before heading off home (or wherever). There are several large screen TV's to watch, and you can also sit outside next to the outdoor pool.

Could you please confirm asap if you wish to have one of the Guest passes reserved for you, or if you intend to be just a Social Guest.

GBSF Squad Training

All named members of the GBSF Team for the forthcoming World Savate Assaut Championships are invited to attend the following event:

Great Britain Savate Federation (GBSF) Squad Training & Team Building Day in Cambridge, in preparation for the forthcoming World Savate Assaut Championships in Paris.

Date: Saturday 30th August, 2008

Venue 1: Core Cambridge, Trinity Hall Farm Estate, Nuffield Road, Cambridge, CB4 1TG

Core Cambridge is a centre of excellence for the strengthening, conditioning and rehabilitation of sports people and athletes of all levels. Please see: http://www.core-cambridge.com/

Times: Session One: 10.30am - 1.00pm - and - Session Two: 2.00 - 5.00pm

Session One at Core will include individual "musculo-skeletal" screenings and assessments for all GBSF Team members. At the same time as the screenings are going on, GBSF Senior Coaches Mr Martin Ross and Mr Charlie Howes will be carrying out Savate specific training with those who are either not being screened, who are waiting to be screened, and/or those who have had their screenings carried out. On completion of all screenings, there will be a group debrief session to reveal and explain all findings.

"We've lost track of the number of people who are stunned by the quality and comprehensive nature or our initial assessment. There's a reason for that: it's the fundamental lynchpin of our training process. It's industry-leading and we're quite rightly proud - in fact we'll go as far as to guarantee that once you've experienced it you'll literally never train the same way again.
"Why is this screening so important? Because as an athlete, you are unique.

"Nobody else shares the same combination of tightnesses, strengths, weaknesses, skeletal shape, movement patterns, injury history and training history as you. This, coupled with the particular demands of your sport or event, means that you can't just follow someone else's path to elite performance - doing so would at best limit your performance, and at worst massively increase the likelyhood of injury.

"Our musculo-skeletal screening gives us a complete picture of your capabilities and what your unique route to success will be. Once this assessment is complete, the path to your destination is made clear and our job is to help you to that destination as fast as possible."

Session Two at Core will focus on the warm-up routine, to ensure that athletes are best prepared for training sessions and competitions, etc. This will also include aspects such as agility, balance and speed, with further advice on injury prevention and how to get the best from ones performance.

Venue 2: Next Generation Gym, 21 Coldhams Business Park, Norman Way, Cambridge, CB1 3LH
Next Generation has a mass of strength and fitness machines and equipment, along with indoor and outdoor Tennis courts, indoor Badminton and Squash courts, two heated swimming pools (one outside), Steam Rooms, Sauna's, and Whirlpool/Spa's. Please see: http://www.ngclubs.co.uk/

Times: 5.30pm onwards (NextGen close at 11.00pm)

The time at Next Generation can be spent working out in the weights room and/or on the machines (trying out some of Core's recommendations perhaps), going for a swim in the indoor or outdoor pool, or relaxing in the Steam Room, Sauna or Whirl Pools. Tennis, Squash and Badminton is also available for a small additional court fee. Later, we can retire to the Lounge area for a meal and some drinks.

Anyone who wishes to stay overnight in Cambridge can either pitch a tent freely at Grantchester Meadows, or else pay a small fee to stay at the bottom of Lime Kiln Hill Camp Site, for example. We may even have a student or two in Cambridge who could provide a garden to camp in, or a spare room or floor to sleep on. Helen at a local B+B is sometimes able to offer me a special deal if she is not already booked up. Please let me know well in advance if you would like stay over so that I can try to find something that best suits you.

Cost: £20 (only) Which includes attending the sessions at Core AND coming along (as my personal guest) to Next Generation Gym in the evening. Each "musculo-skeletal" screening on its own (without the additional warm-up session) would normally cost £60. A special deal (half price) one-day individual pass at Next Generation costs around £8 I believe.

All GB Team members should endeavour to attend this event if at all possible. Please let me know, either way, if you intend coming or if you are not able to.

Ollie Batts - President
Great Britain Savate Federation
