RE: Improving your kicks

Seriously though, to answer Kingski...
For the purpose of savate training the point of failure is when you cannot keep good technique no matter how hard you try.
You should not keep pushing through this otherwise bad technique will develop.
Strapping weights onto your legs or wearing heavier shoes can help one reach point of failure in less time.

A reasonable body of data is starting to come out that exercising to failure improves sports specific strength.
This can, however, also cause problems with motor learning if you are performing a complex kicks or combinations.
Doing simple kicks to failure once a week should give results.

Basically -it may seem obvious - it's impossible to double or triple your kicks if you've got marshmallows instead of muscles. So drills that help building some muscles in the legs are a start.

We do some in classes, but when I make an effort to do them as well at home on a regular basis, it makes a world of difference.

It means I can then concentrate on kicking when and how is appropriate, and minimises the amount of bruises I inflict on my fellow savateur/-euses. (I know, I know, there's still a way to go... )

I found that appropriate weight training did wonders for my kicks...

The important word there being: appropriate!

Ok everyone, this topic should allow members to exchange ideas on how to improve their kicks. I'll start you all off with the jumping spinning Rever. Rather than try to describe things in detail on this, however, I suggest that you copy and paste the following URL into your browser and see for yourselves:
