lonsdale no longer exists their shops have shut down and all that seems to exist is loads of "sportswear" and bags with their logo on them and you can get them anywhere.
i know pugil i do boxing kick boxing and mauy thai along with savate so i totally understand but i was just wondering if people wore other gloves because since lonsdale stopped making gloves the market has been flooded with different types. the other reason is because the fitness industry has hijacked boxing etc with "boxercise" so the market is flooded with crap.
Hi Ian
I didnt know that about Lonsdale not making gloves anymore.
Lonsdale were probably the first decent pair of Boxing Gloves i ever bought, but were quite expensive.
The gloves im using at the mo are T.Sport,i prefer them to my other pair which are Twins Thai Gloves[i find them to strangle my hands a bit, quite tight].
The T.Sports i find very comfortable. by GreatOne at 17:16, 2006-02-04
Pugil - yeah you can call me a Yank. I don't think it is technically an offensive term...and I don't really care, either. The fact that it is often spoken with derision is usually our fault not yours.
When I was in the Corps I spent time in Australia and they never called us anything BUT Yanks...even when speaking about my officers. So I suppose if it were that big a deal someone would have been scrapping. OTOH, this could be a spectacular case of oblivious disregard on my part - but that wouldn't be very American, would it ?
"rivat" is doing pink shoes as well. There are nice. Could match with the pink gloves.
You would have to be a top notch competitor to get away with that pink ensemble! While I am not afraid to show my feminine side, pink doesn't go with my skin tone.
Yes, we went to the Canne de Combat World Championships held in Reunion Island, Indian Ocean (kind of off the lower west coast of Africa), in 2004. The French paid for everyone to fly over from Paris. There were a couple of Canadians, but no Yanks (ok to call you guys that?).
It was tremendous, both the location (i.e. Tropical Island just below the Equator) and the competition itself.
One or two of the top fighters could jump in the air, legs in a split position, to avoid the leg strikes whilst, at the same time, passing the cane between their legs into their other hand, and then hitting their opponent on top of the head immediately after. Phenominal or, as you guys say: 'awesome'!
I think Sigurd could beat up Steve McQueen, but I am not QUITE sure about that. Maybe I'll change my nick...
On a more serious note, for some reason Cincinnati has a history of producing fighters - not as many as a London or Chicago, but considering how insignificant the city * seems * to be it's interesting. Of course, this is the headquarters of Proctor and God so maybe they make super soldiers there and some got away. Or something...
Thanks again and keep it up...here in the States we don't have many Savateurs. In fact I think the Academy is the only Savate training location in Ohio. I've heard that said before but I could be wrong (hope so...but probably not).
BTW Salem showed us some great videos of French cats opening cans of Savate whup and it was very impressive. Then he showed us some of the Cane stuff and I was blown away. Of course, not much economy of motion but if I could do that...well I'd go poor buying Glucosomine.
Welcome to the Forum v0lsung. Interesting name... I'm surprised you didn't use 'Cincinnati Kid'
Yes, I was introduced to Savate through Salem too, albeit many years ago. You should see some of the French Champions if you get a chance to. Some are phenominal.
I'm new to this forum and to Savate (been training for about 6 months along with my other arts JKD and Kali - but I did attend a Salem Assli seminar over the weekend and it was tight). However I've boxed before and I use Everlast. The ones I have suck, but I have to represent you know?
Just kidding, they were on sale and I didn't want to use bag gloves while sparring (). But I do wear Everlast clothes, they're street (not cool street but more like Walmart street).
BTW they are big, RED 14 ozs which I prefer for light sparring. They look silly, but so do I so we're made in hell.
In my many years I have worn many types, colours and styles of boxing gloves. Hayashi, T.Sport, Cusely, Blitz, Sports 7, Walter, SDI to name a few, I have worn laced gloves and velcro gloves - at the end of the day..........it's not the gloves that win the bout it's the person wearing them.
For my club, I have recently purchased some really pretty pink leather boxing gloves and they seem very popular amongst our new ladies but I wouldn't dare call them "ladies gloves" - they are club kit.
We used SDI and Walter gloves. Also TOP-TEN and Cleto Reyes. But now we have supplier from Asia who produce only for us - special savate gloves - at 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16".
But the difference in price is almost 2 times and still it depends on the quantity. This year just before european championship in Paris we visited SDI store in Saint Maximin and found out that they are not prepared to offer discounts on quantity like other trademarks. Very strange.
Yes, and there's Metal Boxe and Montana too, but I suspect that many of the better ones are made in Thailand or Mexico anyway. The rest, somewhere in Pakistan, India, or wherever.
What that means, at the end of the day, is that there are gloves, all with different names, being made in a handful of different factories.
Thanks Ian. Yes, I understand where you're coming from. If you want good quality Boxing gloves at a fairly reasonable price, then give Gary a call at Ergonics in Liverpool. Tell him I put you on to him.
My usual training gloves for Savate are actually English Boxing gloves anyway - Bryan to be precise. I've had them years. I find French 12oz gloves are often very tight on my hands, even without wraps.

Whilst the gloves you mention are superb, you must remember that they are specific to Boxing and, perhaps, Muay Thai, but not to Savate. Cleto Reyes are also outstanding Boxing gloves.
For Savate, top of the range gloves by SDI are pretty good, as are Walter. For general use, it's difficult to beat Sport -7- for reasonable gloves at a reasonable price.

P.S. Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for posting.
