GBSF Savate Assaut League 2006
Permalink Closed

Just a few words to thank everyone for attending last weekend, whether competing, spectating, or judging/timekeeping/refereeing.

The French group were a particularly useful and welcome addition to proceedings - not least the fact that they provided us with extra Officials on the day. Thanks to Gael for arranging that (and well done in your fights).

I would also like to thank Claire, Morgan, 'Sheff' and Tim for coming along on Saturday to assist us in erecting the ring - it still took three hours by the way! Thanks also to the many who stayed behind on Sunday to help in dismantling and putting it away again.

I would also like to thank Jen for her stirling work (again) on the video camera. Hopefully, we'll get the DVD's out a bit quicker this time. Jen also 'worked the door' for a time too, so thanks to her for doing that.

Thanks also to Morgan for timekeeping for much of the day, even though she wasn't feeling 100% and was also competing.

And finally, thanks to Julie for virtually organising the event (almost single-handed) and ensuring things ran well on the day, and for getting the first DVD edited and out - with virtually hours to spare.

Apologies if I missed anyone.

Pugil

We are intending to produce a DVD of the 2nd league event, and will take orders from now...

Anybody who missed the end of the event really should order a DVD, as you missed a great fight between Julien and Tony!

GBSF Savate Assaut League - Event 2
Permalink Closed

As Ross has had problems in securing a suitable venue, in Guildford, for the 2nd GBSF 2006 Savate Assaut League event (scheduled for 25th June) it has been agreed that we will host the competition in Cambridge again.

Please get your entries in to us by the 12th June.

Hi,
I don't know if this post is relevant, but I compared the rope of the ring used during the March event and those in two clubs here in Lille. It seems that those you are using are slack and could be tightened a bit more. I spent a lot of time in the ropes ( Nagi, it wasn't on purpose) and I could feel how they were.
I hope this comment will help.

Yes you're right Gael. It's a new ring, and there was (and still is) a problem with it. The makers are supposed to be coming down to sort it out.

We think that the 'female' slots are too big for the corresponding 'male' parts - a not uncommon phenomenon apparently!

Once the problem has been corrected we should be able to tighten the ropes some more.

Best wishes,

Pugil

Hi,

Before September, are there any information about June's event? Have you decided where the next event will take place? Because I want to be there. There are two girls and one guy who are interested (depending on the day). They are serious and they won't get lost in London as Smael's students did

I am training hard to meet the level of your competition.

regards

Hmmm... I think there should be a game associated with that: who could put a ring up in less than half-an-hour without looking at the pics?

Then we could take bets. Hey, maybe that could be one way for the GBSF to make money!

Although if you can rip off a version of Street Fighter II and include it then I'll *definitely* use it. Put 'em all in integrals or something.

How about we start filming for the build-up to the next one?

Training interviews, snippets of winning psychology from the contenders, hard-eyed stares between rivals...?

Inside the training camp: "I fancy my chances. I'm ready for this fight."

Predictions:

"Mr Tsui, are you feeling confident?"
"Yes - he'll go down in round one."

Will it have any special features? Transcripts of background comments ("KICK HIM IN THE HEAD! THE HEAD!")? Interviews with fighters where they reveal their sensitive side? A behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of The (Savate) Ring?

No? Put me down for one anyway. Thanks.

An Official DVD of the entire event - which will be around 3 hours long - will be available soon. We hope to price them at around £12 each. Please get your orders in so that we can produce the number required and not do too many or too few on the first run at least.

To all of you who taped the competition: is there any chance we could get a copy of it?
It'd be nice to be able to keep a record of all that, and as it was my first fight as well, I'd love to be able to see what I need to work on.

Cheers!

Let me know when you'll next be in Cambridge and I'll get one to you. They're really excellent, and a full 3-hours long too.
