Hi Rossy,

Good idea to pre-order... if people do that, it'll help us plan how many to do!

Thanks again for all your hard work on sunday...

As I was quite busy doing stuff on the day I didn't get much time to enjoy watching the bouts, as my memeory is jaded and fading fast I would like to pre-order a copy of the DVD as soon as it is commercially available, in fact I would like to pre - order 2 copies so I can send one to Valerie (and Neil). I realise these things take a bit of time to produce but will you announce when it is ready please.

Many thanks. Rossy

Fight of the day?

Yes I agree. It's a bit of a shame that Mike didn't fight as well against Dom as he did in that first fight against Nabil.

Thanks everyone for a great competition.

I would like to start the voting for the 'Bout of The Day' by nominating the superb technical performance given to us by Creighton vs Aabouda. Some top-notch stuff.

Anyone else agree or have their own favourite?

I just like to add my thanks aswell to everyone involved in putting together a very enjoyable tournament.

For me it was a first time experience to compete in a ring and i definately prefered it to competing on mats.

It was great fun.

Im also pleased for my London Savate team mates for doing so well.

Now i cant wait for the next one in Guildford.

So watch out Dom and Nabil,if we meet again,i be ready, lol

Just to reassure everyone: when we eventually made it back to mine, last night, Gael was well enough to beat my half at boardgames.

Aside a lack of sleep (too much reading!) he was well enough to go back home this morning.

What a fun and eventful weekend!
:)

I would like to thank Ollie & Julie for all the "behind the scenes" work they both put in to make the first League event such a success.

I'd also like to thank all competitors for their efforts in and out of the ring.

A special word of thanks to Valerie & Neil for the help and assistance with "officialising" the event - a note will be sent to Alain explaining that he taught you well and that you are a fantastic "International" referee. Hope you got to Coventry in time and that your return journey to Brest was un-complicated. I will send you a copy of the DVD once it has been produced and also any photo's I can get hold of.

Another special word to Gael, I hope you are okay after the minor KO.

The next league event will take place in Guildford, I hope to arrange it for the last Sunday in June. The last entry date for this event will be June 1st so plenty of time to prepare.

"Vive la Savate"

I'd like to thank everyone who came along and supported the first GBSF National Savate Assaut League event in Cambridge yesterday - whether as a fighter, spectator or Official.

Thanks also to all those who stayed around at the end of a long and tiring day to help dismantle and put away the ring - and to those people who made seperate financial donations towards the cost of the ring out of their own pockets.

Thanks to Tim and Clare for also arranging and setting up the PA system, even if we didn't use it to maximum effect, and to Jen for working the video camera for such a long spell, and to Morgan for keeping tabs on the door and the cash.

Thanks to Gael and Valérie for attending. As for the other invisible French competitors... the ones we had to jump backwards through hoops to accommodate... I think the least said about them the better... I am not at all impressed!!!

The New GBSF Savate Assaut League
Permalink Closed

Dear All,

Please don't forget that the new Savate League kicks off tomorrow, Sunday 19th March, in the Gymnasium at Coleridge Community College, Cambridge, UK.

Weigh-ins, for competitors, will take place from 9.45am - 10.45am.

Fighting commences at 11am sharp.

Even if you are not competing, please do come along and give you support to those who are.

There looks like being well over 40 fights to get through, so it really doesn't matter if you can only make it along for a couple of hours, or if you want to stay for the whole day, to watch. There's bound to be some good bouts.

If you have entered, there will also be a pre-event training session tonight from 5pm, also in the Gym at Coleridge whilst the ring is being erected.

There will be no charge to attend and, if we're lucky, we might be joined by some of the French contingency too.

And finally:

Please don't forget that there will be a small entrance fee of £8 for all competitors and £5 for all spectators.

Competitors are also reminded to bring along all their kit on the day, as without it they will be disqualified from competing.

Good luck to all fighters and, for the rest of you, please do come along and see what it's all about. Who knows, next time you might also feel ready to get in the ring and have a go yourselves.

RE: Pools & Number of Fights
Permalink Closed

Hi James,

Julie and I have discussed this at some length. She will also be posting an answer to your questions in the Executive Committee sub-forum.

Ideally, we want to have a system that is fair to all, and yet manageable within the time constraints, etc. In the case of four fighters, it will probably benefit us to introduce an element of seeding - even if that is simply a case of the ExCom agreeing who are most likely to be the best two fighters in a particular weight category, and then agreeing to keep them apart in the first round.

I have a question regarding the pools system. Does anyone with information have the time to set me right?

I think it would be useful to know how the pools are structured as a function of the number of fighters. Then one can gauge how many fights to expect, and how many losses or wins one needs to stay in contention.

For x fighters in a category, how do the pools pan out? For example, how accurate are my guesses:

2 - fairly simple, one fight, winner takes all.

3 - do all three fight one another in a single pool, then the two highest point scorers re-match?

4 - two pools of two, or one of four

etc

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

James

Directions from Coventry

I will drive down from coventry.

Probably the best route will be to take the M6 out of Coventry, heading East towards the M1. Join the M1 at junction 19 and head North (yes, I did say 'head North') to junction 20.

Leave the M1 at junction 20, heading East again towards Market Harborough, on the A427. Just after you pass Market Harborough, look out for signs to Kettering. The road you need to get onto is the A14. This road takes you all the way to Cambridge - and beyond if you're not careful! But not for some fair few miles however. When you get close to Cambridge, call me on my mobile telephone, if possible. We'll guide or meet you from there.

You should probably allow two hours for a relaxed journey. Although if there is not too much traffic you should be able to do the journey in about an hour and a half.

We'll be weighing in fighters from 9.45am until 10.45am, with a view to kicking off the day at 11am sharp.

Not as far as I'm aware I'm afraid. Are you driving, or relying on Public Transport?

GBSF League Insurance
Permalink Closed

***IMPORTANT***

If you are entered into the GBSF Savate Assaut League 2006 and you are not domiciled in the UK you must obtain insurance cover in your own country to fight over here.

I have checked, and double-checked, with our insurer's and they have categorically stated that we cannot simply organise event insurance as that still would not cover foreign competitors.

I apologise most sincerely for this rather late announcement, but it seems that the European Union does not have any unity where insurance for sporting exchanges is concerned.

Same thing happened to me, turns out i'm far heavier than I actually thought.
Though it's difficult when every set of scales you get on gives a completely different reading.

Go to your local Gym and weigh yourselves on a set of beam scales!

I'm right on the limit between 70-76 and 76-82kg. What happens if I put on weight between competitions and go up a category? Would I lose the points from previous league competitions, or carry them with me?

Pete,

Maybe you can compete in both weight categorys if your spot on 76kg.

Don't forget to get your entries in by the 5th March for the first league event on the 19th March!

Forward planning:

The second league event will be held in Guildford on the weekend of 24th/25th June. Ross will confirm whether it will be on the saturday or sunday as soon as he can.

The third event is likely to be held on Saturday 30th September - 2 weeks after the World Champs in Paris. The fourth event is currently planned for the weekend of 9th/10th December. However, it may be possible to hold it the weekend before or the weekend after, if there is sufficient demand to do so.

The forthcoming Savate League (due to start in Cambridge on Sunday 19th March) is already attracting attention, from abroad as well as at home, and it looks like there will be a few French entries too.

The GBSF Executive Committee has also agreed that the League will also incorporate a Student Championships within the competition. Students will, therefore, be able to compete to become: League Champion; British Champion (if they are British); and, University Student Champion, in their respective weight categories.

We remind you that there are 8 categories for both Adult Male and Adult Female competitors.
