For those of you who are still using weighing scales that only show English weights - and why not eh! - the glove weights correspond pretty closely to the following weights:
Up to 9 stone 6 lbs = 10 oz gloves
9-and-a-half stone and over, but not more than 12 stone = 12 oz gloves
12 stone and above = 14 oz gloves
For the sake of any American readers: An English Stone is equal to 14 pounds. Therefore, anyone weighing 12 stones simply weighs 168 lbs (pounds).
The French Federation has decided to change THEIR weight categories in THEIR competitions.
As far as the International Federation is concerned, however, the weights used in the 2006 World Championships will be exactly the same as were used in the 2005 European Championships.
With that being the case, the GBSF National Savate Assaut League 2006 will retain the weights as previously posted, so that all competitors will be using the same categories as will be used by the FIS in the World Savate Assaut Championships later in the year.
It may well be that in 2007 everything will change but, for this year at least, it will not.
The weights, therefore, are as follows:
Men
-56 Kg 56 - 60 Kg
60 - 65 Kg 65 - 70 Kg 70 - 76 Kg
76 - 82 Kg 82 - 89 Kg 89+ Kg
Women
-48 Kg 48 - 52 Kg 52 - 56 Kg 56 - 60 Kg
60 - 65 Kg 65 - 70 Kg 70 - 76 Kg
76+ Kg
The above weights have been categorised to indicate glove weights. They are also shown below:
Competitors weighing under 60 Kg = 10 oz gloves Competitors weighing 60 - 76 Kg = 12 oz gloves Competitors weighing 76 Kg and over = 14 oz gloves

each of the weight categories?
Under the original weights (as listed at the top of page 1 on this post) both Males and Females between 60 kg and 76 kg wear 12 oz gloves. Lower weights wear 10 oz and higher 14 oz.
With that being the case, even if we adopt the new FIS weights that would presumably mean anyone over 75 kg would be required to wear 14 oz gloves? Or is it 80 kg+ we have to ask?
Rest assured that we will clarify all points with Gilles at the weekend.
it should be the new categories for the world championship. you can find the informations in the FIS anyway so let me know so that i can learn something.
I'll speak with Gilles on Saturday (not that I don't believe you, of course)
It may be that we will fall in line if these weights will be used in the 2006 World Championships. There is obviously still time to change before our League competition actually starts.
If we do, the weights affected would be as follows:

I used the same weights that were used in the Championnat d'Europe de Savate en Assaut, Poules qualificatives et Finales fought in Paris, France, 30th September - 2nd October 2005.
I've not checked with Rossy, who is GBSF DTI, but I'd think you can fight in a different category if your weight changes if you like, but your points would only score in the correct category you are entered in each time. It's the same as in Boxing, you can't expect to become a contender for one particular weight category if you fight in another. I'd suggest you watch and control your weight.
i don't know how it is for england, but if you put your name in a category you have to stick to it. .I had the same problem, being between two categories. It's better to be the heaviest in the category than the lighter. the categories have changed :
now it's
men less 56/ 56.60/ 60.65/ 65.70/70.75/75.80/80.85/ more85
women less 48/48.52/52.56/56.60/60.65/65.70/70.75/more75
If you weigh more than one kg above the limit of your category you are disqualified.
If you are under the weigh of your category you are disqualified.
If you are less than 1 kg under the limit of your category you are allowed to come back twice for weighing (about 1 hour!).
For young savateurs (up to cadet) it's slightly different.
Now i don't know how it is for your league competitions but i would imagine you don't loose points but don't gain any !
Best thing to do now, no more pork pies and jaffa cakes!!!
I'm right on the limit between 70-76 and 76-82kg. What happens if I put on weight between competitions and go up a category? Would I lose the points from previous league competitions, or carry them with me?

Just in case someone ask me, will you have rings? do you need officials? I am looking forward to meet you all again!

i arrive in luton (from brest: i live 1/2 hour drive from there) saturday afternoon, then i take a car and i go and see my sister in law in coventry. On the sunday, i drive down to cambridge. I will eventually need a map to know where the competition is. I don't know at what time i'll arrive.
I can't wait to come and meet you all.
