For me, I find that the lead leg Fouette Bas (usually to the inside of the opponent's knee) is the fastest kick of all. It's a case of 'closest tool, to closest target', although the lead Coup de Pied Bas does indeed run it a very close second.
The Coup De Pied Bas is a very sneaky kick,although it may not look as impressive as the high kicks,it can be hard to read and defend against at times.Its also a good set up kick for other combinations.
I think a good example of this kick is used by Bruce Lee fighting Chuck Norris in the Colliseum in Way Of The Dragon.
