Great experience, and we made lots of new friends...
The french team(s), particularly Chantal and Nicole, the french team captains and the officials were very helpful to us... we had lots of lessons between fights. I was also fortunate to have one of the french captains coaching me for my final fight - which I won.
Results... I also have all the point scores if anyone is interested...

Welcome back to the GBSF Canne de Combat squad following their return from the European Championships last weekend.
The team was made up of:
Morgan ALEXANDER (f) Coach Julie GABRIEL (f) Newman BURDETT (m) Stu (m) [forgot his last name, sorry Stu!]
and Agnes AUBERT (f) supporter.
Sadly, poor ol' Newman wrenched or twisted his knee inside the first minute of the first round, in his very first fight. That injury effectively put him out of the competition. It also meant that the team were unable to amass as many points as they would have done towards the team results. Morgan was also unwell, which meant that she also had to sacrifice one of her fights, which again meant that points were lost to the squad's final tally. We didn't come last however, especially as both Julie and Stu won a fight each, and Morgan also got a draw in one of her matches.
I'll leave it to one of them to either post the full results or, at least, point to where they can be found.
Well done to them all for going and competing, and flying the GB flag, and not least for making two long overnight train journeys to get there and back as well.
The date is 20 & 21 october 2006 at Schiltigheim (Alsace) France. If you need more information about how to join in, contact your Savate federation who should have all the details about it. If not, mail the FIS fisavate@orange.com . Entries are called for on the Reservation Form, to be sent back for 1st September.
