RE: CIMAC INTERNATIONAL WORLD CUP

I know what you mean Rossy, there is some strange rules in some of them light contact tournaments, some of them are not that light either.

Ive entered open light contact kickboxing tournaments in the past on my own even while with a club.

I did join WKA and Maas, but the club i was with was registered to WAKO.

Some of the opens i entered you could get cover on the day as a non affiliated member, and some never even bothered to ask for your licence book, they just let you enter at your own risk.

But for the little it cost to join WAKO or WKA its worth it.

It is good fun and good experience to enter these "open" events but the official FIS, FFBFS and GBSF line is "Savate only competes against Savate". Anyone can enter "open" kickboxing events and represent themselves as a "fighter" = they can then (assuming the rules allow) fight in a Savate style. Before entering it is recommended that you check the rules, are leg kicks allowed, is foot contact, shin contact or both allowed, are knee's and elbows allowed, can you wear boots, shoes or flap over's. Especially important is what level of contact is allowed and are you insured - Your GBSF student - student policy does not cover you to fight or spar (even demo) against someone who isn't a current GBSF member !

To get around this, in the past fighters, from my club, myself included have taken out seperate insurance policies with AMA (Amateur Martial Association), only about £15.00 a year which covers you for any "Martial Art" competition.

Most competitions do not allow leg kicks and many will insist on NO BOOTS - we even had one that allowed fouette to legs but not chasse, all gets very confusing so Sabine did a flying chasse lateral bas and hospitalised her opponent, ooopsy!

In breif: Check the rules, check the insurance cover, enjoy !!

I was flicking through one of the UK Martial Arts Magazines, and see a full page ad for an upcoming Open Martial Arts Tournament, that could be a good tournament for us savate girls and guys to enter.

There is a Light Contact section that we could enter, and probably do well in.

Theres also a Kick Fighting Section, whatever that is,lol.[Probably Taekwondo Guys]
