I am glad to hear everything was fine and the event was a success. I heard that the level was high and the Lille-team enjoyed their time (both on the mats and in the pubs) Next time there will no thesis to prevent me from coming. (I got ten more days to hunt the typos before sending my final document)
See you!
Gael

The mats format made it different from the previous league events I went to. Even though I think I prefer the ring, it's good to shake old habits and learn new tricks and techniques. It was certainly interesting to see the difference it made in the fighting styles of some competitors.
There were very impressive bouts! I look forward to watching them again on vids.
Talking of which, I like your idea about judging + refereeing, Rossy. I think it'll be valuable for everyone.
I want to say a special thanks to the Frenchies ('real' + 'local' alike) who were at the comp. It's so good to speak French again! Maybe one of the next training days should be all in French? Julie's ready for that and from what I heard on Sunday, Rossy and Nagi too... ;)
Indeed....well done for turning up everyone. Fighters, supporters and officials - good work and great bouts. A big thank you to James and the London crew for hosting the event, great venue and such easy access.
Next years league will be bigger and better than this so.....when GBSF hold the next Judge / Referee Seminar (hopefully before Christmas !) it would be good to have as many people attend it, could be next year (if we have enough officials) we will need two rings on the go at once.
The more fighters that enter, the more officials are required. It would be very cool to get you "other half" involved, it is possible to judge / referee without actually being a fighter. If you are a fighter it will really help you win bouts if you have some experience as a judge / refeee, you will know what scres high, what gets penalties etc.
Event 3 will be held in London Waterloo on Sunday 14th October. I'm awaiting confirmation from the hall and I'll make a full posting, I hope, with all the details later today.
I'm under the impression it's on or around the 14th October, in London.
Is that correct?
Cheers, James

any idea when event 3 of the league will be? been out of training for a while witgh my shoulder and was wondering when i'd have to start *shudder* stepping up the cardio.
also how will it affect gbsf team selection for the europeans? is it before or after the comp, and will team places be dependent on performances? I'm sure im not alone in wanting things cleared up as soon as possible.
I'll be the first to gush my praise and thanks after the tournament yesterday. I thought everyone fought to a good standard and several fights really stuck in my mind as excellent displays.
Specifically, congratulations everyone - fighters and arbitrators alike - for the high standard of control and the deployment of a level of force commensurate with assaut competition. I am very happy we achieved this.
Don't forget that the GBSF 2007 Savate Assaut League Event 2 of 3 takes place this coming Sunday, 15th July.
So far, we've had four entries from the French, and none from our own home-grown people.
Please email Julie if you want to compete: julie@savate.co.uk on or before Thursday 12th.
Even if you're not taking part on this occasion we'd still like to see you coming along to support the event, as well as give moral and vocal support those who are competing.
We'll be erecting the ring in the Gym at Coleridge on Saturday 14th from 5pm. Anyone who is able to come along and assist with that will be most welcome too. If you're fighting, you'll also be able to weigh-in on Saturday, instead of between 10 - 10.45am on Sunday morning. Just think, you'll be able to have a bit of a lay-in and eat a bit of breakfast too!

This event was a lot of fun to watch! You all put on a superb, heart-stopping show!!!
I was really impressed with the number of fighters to stepped in the ring for the very first time, against good and experienced opponents and who didn't run off but put on a good fight instead. Well done, guys!!!!
I can't wait for the next one, and to see you all again soon!
I'll take his oppurtunity to be the first to say a BIG thank you to Ollie and Julie for arranging and hosting the first event of the year. I would also like to thank everyone who attended, fought, officialised and made the event happen - well done. Thanks also to our Belgian friends for attending and displaying good sporting behaviour and stretching even our best fighter's. Vive La Savate !
Looks like an impressive start to the season. Well done Ollie and Julie already for the work put in behind the scenes. PPPPPP - if you know what that means, you will know what I mean ! Should be a good full day event and now Multi National. We (GBSF) need a major sponsor to make these great events into showcase spectaculars.

The Great Britain Savate Federation Savate Assaut (controlled contact) 2007 League event (1 of 3) will take place this coming Sunday, 25th March, in Coleridge Gymnasium, Radegund Road, Cambridge.
If you wish to participate, please be aware that all entries should be in by midnight on Tuesday 20th March. Entrance fee = £8.
There are eight weight divisions for both male and female competitors. These are based on the new categories in international Savate, and are as follows:
Weigh-ins: Saturday evening (for anyone who comes and helps out to erect the ring) and on Sunday morning from 10am - 10.45pm. No entries on the day, or for fighters who failed to register before the deadline given above.
Even if you do not wish to compete, do please come along and give your vocal support to the fighters, and a little bit of financial support to the event. Why not bring some of your non-training friends and relatives along to see what it's all about. Bring a camera too (just don't get in the way please). Spectator's entrance fee = £5 (which allows you to come and go at will.)
For each fighter, I need to know: full name club date of birth weight in kilos
and for people I might not know, it would be useful to have an idea of their level/experience as there may be some novice fighters who just want to "have a go"
