RE: Your Top Martial Arts Films

Good call on snatch, some lovely pikey fighting.

I feel i'm obliged to mention 'savate' itself as some point, despite the fact that it's not very good. ah well, can't have it all.

AS for best Bruce Lee fights, it's gotta be the Chuck norris fight from way of the dragon.
Also if you can get hold of the uncut original pagoda from Game of Death, that's excellent. a thousand times better than the crap that got finally released...

I'm also going to have to say Kung Fu Hustle. Great fights, and actually a great movie too. the knife throwing scene is so painfully funny.

And then there are the old school classics. Shaolin temple with jet li, 36 chambers of shaolin with gordon liu (the guy from kill bill), and two of jackie chan's finest, wheels on meals, and dragons forever, both of which also feature sammo hung and benny urquidez. nice!

Which style of martial art does Bob Hoskins practice?

My fave all time Martial Arts Movie is- The Big Brawl - Jackie Chan this film excited me more about martial arts than any other film.

My second fave Martial Arts Movie is - The Game Of Death- i think the most exciting fight in that film is with the Bruce Lee lookalike fighting Bob Wall in the changing room.

My Third fave Martial Arts Movie is - Bloodsport 4- I found this to be the best story of the 4 Bloodsport films, some great fights and action from Daniel Bernhardt.

Ah so! Good topic! *strokes beard*

I like those 3, definitely a good start...

But i'd like to give honourable mentions to

1. Fist of Legend

Probably Jet Li's finest. Not too many wires, plenty of fights. Brutal!

2. Brotherhood of the Wolf

French Kung Fu/Horror/Mystery. Looks stunning, some nice fights. Actually quite a good film too.

3. Equilibrium

Yes it's a matrix rip off, but it's nice and short, the gun fu is amazing, and Christian Bale would clearly have made a much better Neo.

Anyone else want to weigh in? There's quite a few left to mention...

So, imagine you're having a martial arts film night or something, what are your top MA films?

I'm going for:

1. The Matrix (pt.1)
2. Ong Bak
3. Enter the Dragon

And my reasons:
1. It's why I started MA- and therefore Savate! How can I not love it?!
2. Phenomenal stunts (and all done without wires or CGI), an ok story line and even quite a few humorous bits.
3. Hey, it's Bruce Lee... 'nuff said!

So, 'fess up, what are yours?

Cheers,
James
